Sectra launches support for secure IP telephony with smartphones

Sectra’s new product for secure voice communications, Panthon, now supports mobile IP telephony. The product also features a new security solution to protect the telephone from threats such as trojans. On November 3-4, Panthon will be demonstrated at the IT security trade show Infosecurity.nl.

Panthon is a voice crypto for politicians and officials that use smartphones. Inserting a microSD card containing encryption and a security solution into your smartphone gives protection against unwanted interception. The need for protection grows as it becomes less expensive and easier to eavesdrop mobile phones.

“Our customers, who need to communicate when they are traveling and moving between countries, request secure IP telephony. With the unique safety solution that we have now implemented in Panthon, our customers will have access to a secure telephony solution with crystal-clear sound that will function effectively wherever they may be,” says Michael Bertilsson, President of Sectra Communications.

Sectra’s new product is built on hardware-based encryption and protects the call all the way from the sender to the receiver. Panthon is pending approval for communication of sensitive information up to security level Restricted, meaning information that could cause undesirable effects if disclosed. To achieve the Restricted safety level, encryption must be hardware-based.

Smartphones require new security solutions

The trend toward increasingly computer-like mobile telephones requires new types of security solutions. In the same way as a computer is protected against harmful code, such as a viruses and trojans, it is also necessary to protect a smartphone. Sectra has thus developed a new security solution – Phone Integrity.

“Panthon is equipped with the new Phone Integrity solution, which features the protection required to protect smartphones against harmful code. An integral part of this solution is to guarantee secure installation and delivery,” says Michael Bertilsson.

Sectra Panthon will be exhibited at Infosecurity.nl, which will take place on November 3-4 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Meet Europe’s leading supplier of encrypted telephony at stand D135.
