Shawbrook’s team know our business inside out and so it was a natural step for us to approach them for support when the crisis hit. As well as completely understanding our situation in the circumstances, they also recognised the opportunities that would emerge once lockdown ended.
The Covid-19 pandemic is presenting businesses across the UK with unprecedented challenges and many which were successful pre-Covid are now struggling through no fault of their own. Route66 is one of the most iconic – if not thee most iconic – highway in the world and so we felt this would be a great project to start off with. We decided to go for it, and to try and raise some funds for our NHS frontline heroes at the same time and it just grew arms and legs from there.
Newmafruit is an excellent addition to the Bardsley England group and this is a great opportunity for the business. It will enable us to increase our offering of top and stone fruit to the UK market and therefore enhance the strategic partnerships and alliances we have already forged.
Shawbrook Bank were supportive from the off, really getting behind the group’s potential, and we believe they will be an excellent funding partner over the coming years. There were challenges along the way – not least due to lockdown – but everyone pulled together to get the deal done in an incredibly tight timescale. We are sure that Bardsley England have an exciting future ahead of them.

The funding facility they put together, together with the guidance and support they’ve so far given us, demonstrates to us that Shawbrook are the right funder to get UTS to where we want it to be – starting with these three acquisitions, which will grow our national footprint by 50%.
We are excited by these acquisitions and believe they offer great value and further growth opportunity which fits in with the overall Troy Group business plan.
What was also pleasing about this deal was that it was delivered successfully in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic while the country was still in lockdown. For us, this not only demonstrates the strength of the UTS management team and their strategy, but is also a great example of how we’re not just open for business but determined to get the finance in place when it matters most – in spite of the current logistical challenges and uncertainties.
Shawbrook's track record as a specialist funder and supporter of innovative property developments – particularly across the Southwest – is second to none and their commitment to putting this funding in place has demonstrated to us what a difference it can make to have the right funder working with you.
This is an exciting development for the region and we are very happy to be involved. Shawbrook has shown a commitment to its customers and brokers continuously through these uncertain times. I am both excited and delighted to be able to now play my part in shaping our product proposition as we look to support them even further moving forward.

This was Shawbrook’s first heat pump project of this size and it came with a number of potential challenges, as most project finance transactions do. But by working closely with Joe and Martin we were able to work through those obstacles and put a facility together that will help AW Brandreth further diversify and protect their business for the future. I am excited to see what the future holds for the farm with this latest venture.
