The Yorkshire-based Sheffield Teaching Hospital implemented the new medical beds across its hospitals

Shawbrook Bank has financed more than 1800 new beds for an NHS Foundation Trust in Yorkshire.

As part of a planned bed replacement programme, Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will implement 1818 specialist beds – with 618 already in place and a further 1200 delivered in the next few weeks.

Shawbrook, a specialist lender to UK businesses and healthcare organisations, was selected to fund the project after it was successful in an official NHS tender framework process.

Dasos Kirtsides, Head of Healthcare at Shawbrook Bank, said: “This is a particularly crucial time for everyone, so by being proactive and working closely with all the parties involved we’ve been able to play our part in keeping a vital supply chain moving, helping to provide these beds as part of the Trust’s planned replacement programme.

“I am so proud to be leading the healthcare team at Shawbrook.

“A huge well done to everyone involved in this project and our thoughts are with all teams working across the NHS and Social Care at this time.”

A total of 618 beds were brought on board in the first phase of the project, with 1200 being added in a second phase during the month of April.

Kevin Dare, UK Sales and Marketing Director at manufacturer, Arjo, said: “Following a thorough evaluation process of specialist medical-surgical beds available to the Teaching Hospital, we were successfully awarded the contract to replace 1,818 beds across their sites.

“This project included a comprehensive aftersales package and bed accessories to support the Trust, from both a clinical and engineering perspective, during the life of the beds.

Laura Whelpdale, Head of Leasing Service Delivery at Lifecycle, and the lease advisor for the project, added: “On behalf of the Trust, we ran a thorough procurement exercise for the lease of 1,815 specialist beds. The tender was designed to ensure the lease delivered the lowest whole-life costs and the maximum flexibility for our NHS client.

“Shawbrook was the winning bidder and the first contract has been concluded with the remainder during the month of April.”

Shawbrook provides a range of specialist finance solutions to the healthcare sector in the UK, funding both medical and non-medical equipment, property and working capital needs.

The Bank’s clients include large NHS Trusts, children’s, elderly and specialist care homes, private clinics, public and private hospitals, general practices, pharmacies, dentists and opticians.
