Porsche leads the grid at Silverstone Auctions’ Spring Sale
A stunning Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring was one of the highlights at Silverstone Auctions’ recent Spring Sale when it sold for more than £200,000.
This 1973 model had been the recent recipient of a total restoration by leading RS specialist Marc De Siebenthal of Switzerland, no doubt adding to its appeal. The car eventually sold for £204,600, well above its pre-sale estimate.
Other notable successes on 16th May, where many of the cars sold achieved higher than expected figures, included a left hand drive 1999 Ferrari 456M GT for £36,520, more than £10,000 above its pre-sale estimate, a 1976 Jensen Interceptor III for £47,850 and a stunning 1958 Jaguar XK 150 Fixedhead Coupe for £35,200.
An ex-Ayrton Senna 1982 Ralt RT3 Formula 3 car also surpassed expectations when it sold for £113,300, showing that the appeal of the arguably the world’s greatest ever racing driver remains incredibly strong.
Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “We had some truly outstanding cars at the event, so it came as no surprise that they achieved some excellent prices.
“Indeed, while we didn’t manage to surpass the fantastic 74 percent sale rate of our last auction at Race Retro, we did secure some good prices for those cars which did sell.”
Prior to auction, sellers and buyers were able to enjoy the world-class facilities in Silverstone circuit’s ultra-modern £27 million ‘Wing’ building, where all the cars were available for viewing.
“The auction hall in The Wing building is a fantastic venue and all the cars looked absolutely stunning on display. We look forward to returning for our next auction in the summer,” added Nick.
