‘Royal’ number plates up for auction!

Silverstone Auctions has two very special number plates going under the hammer – one for the admirers of an iconic princess and the other for the fans of a musical king.

The first one with very definite Royal overtones is a ‘D111ANA’ number plate (Lot 98), estimated at between £12,000 to £14,000.

Meanwhile, the other number plate sure to leave bidders all shook up and hit all the right notes is ‘ELV 15P’ (Lot 99). It’s been estimated at between £25,000 to £30,000, a bargain when considering that a similar plate, ‘ELV 1S’ recently sold for £60,000 on the hammer.

Both number plates will be offered for auction at Silverstone Auctions’ Spring Sale on 16th May at Silverstone race circuit, the home of British motorsport.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, commented: “These two unique number plates each have their own ‘royal’ connections. Fans of the King of Rock n’ Roll might go for ‘ELV 15P’, while ‘D111ANA’ could attract bids from those people fascinated by one of the most iconic figures of the twentieth century.”

Meanwhile, motorsport royalty is reflected in some of the other automobilia items for sale which include many lots connected to legendary Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna. His first ever Formula One steering wheel (Lot 50), estimated at between £12,000 to £16,000 will be up for sale, along with a signed framed programme for the 1992 British Grand Prix (Lot 51), estimated at between £800 to £1,200.

Senna fans might also be tempted by another star number plate being offered in the sale. ‘F1 5ENA’ (Lot 95) will also go under the hammer and is estimated at between £10,000 - £12,000.

However, Ayrton Senna is far from being the only race legend represented in the sale. Others include a Ronnie Peterson original Team Lotus Formula One helmet (Lot 35), estimated at between £8,000 to £10,000, and a Lewis Hamilton signed full-face race helmet (Lot 75), estimated at between £1,500 and £2,000.

“This automobilia auction is shaping up to be one of our best yet thanks to a number of notable lots being offered. With such a wide variety of items on offer, there’s sure to be something for all motorsport enthusiasts or serious collectors,” added Nick.

In addition to the automobilia items, there are more than 60 cars, including race cars, modern supercars and older classics, at the Spring Sale. For further information visit www.silverstoneauctions.com.
