DNB office building wins European Steel Design Award – steel frame from Ruukki Construction
The DNB A office building in Oslo has won the prestigious European Steel Design 2015 award. The award was made at the ECCS Steel Design Awards Ceremony in Istanbul on September 15. Ruukki designed, manufactured and installed the building’s steel frame.
“We are both proud and happy about the tribute we have received. Excellent close teamwork between the architects, engineers, steel construction contractor, building management and the development company led to our receiving this award,” declared project manager, Øystein Olav Ylvisåker at development company Oslo S Utvikling AS.
Mr Ylvisåker added that their vision is guided by high quality and the use of innovations. The award was received by project manager Minna Kuusela-Opas at Ruukki.
“This is a fine recognition of the expertise of Ruukki’s project management. The honour belongs to our expert team as a whole,” Ms Kuusela-Opas emphasizes.
The building that has received the award is described as the most multifaceted of DNB’s office facilities in Europe. Among other things, the building consists of cube-like six by six-metre projections that project from the core of the structure. Ruukki supplied approximately 1,600 tonnes of steel for the building.
Rotterdam-based architectural office MVRDV together with the Norwegian DARK Arkitekter office were responsible for the architectural design of the DNB A building.
The purpose of the European Steel Design Awards (2015) is to encourage the creative use of steel in building construction. The competition honors developers, architects, steel designers and steel structure contractors. The criteria for the award are esthetics, technology, the environment and value for money. Norska Stålforbund – Norway’s steel building association – selected the DNB A building for entry in the competition.
