The highly acclaimed “Tin House”, a London residence made from the sustainable colour coated product GreenCoat from SSAB, has been named “Iconic Awards 2017 – Winner”, by the international architect network Iconic World.

Designed by award-winning architect Henning Stummel, the Tin House features a unique exterior that is clad entirely in GreenCoat PLX Pro BT from SSAB, a company recognised worldwide for producing one of the best steels in the world.

“In choosing to use GreenCoat, we began by looking at all materials. What was important was ensuring that we could get a coloured finish that would be long lasting – something that wouldn’t fade – in order to preserve the unique look for decades to come. The fact that GreenCoat PLX Pro BT features a coating with sustainable properties is an equally important benefit,” says Stummel.

GreenCoat PLX Pro BT features a patented Bio-based Technology (BT) coating that uses a substantial portion of Swedish rapeseed oil instead of fossil based oils, which are traditionally used.

GreenCoat PLX Pro BT is also well known among tinsmiths for its easy hand forming and long colour retention, in addition to being highly resistant to corrosion, UV radiation as well as scratches.

The Iconic Awards are the first neutral international architecture and design awards that focus on how the disciplines of architecture, design, construction and industry interact. It acknowledges visionary architecture, innovative products and sustainable communication from all fields of architecture, the construction and property sectors and the manufacturing industry in five main categories.

The Tin House has previously been shortlisted for BD’s Architect of the Year Awards 2017, UK – Individual House. It is the winner of the RIBA London Award 2016 and has been a finalist for the World Architecture Festival 2016 award, the RIBA National House of the Year 2016 and the Stephen Lawrence Prize 2016.
