Continued expansion and investment in domestic service from Stockholm Arlanda – Ryanair to launch 12 new routes for summer 2022 season

Ryanair continues to expand and invest in the Swedish market and will launch ten new international direct routes for the summer season, with a number of these to brand-new European destinations from Stockholm Arlanda Airport, as well as two domestic routes to Luleå and Visby. That means a total of 35 new routes and more than 140 weekly departures from Arlanda.

In conjunction with the inauguration of Ryanair’s new base at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and twenty-three new routes for the winter season, the Irish low-cost carrier announced its continued expansion, with twelve new routes for the summer 2022 season. Ryanair will place four aircraft at its base and launch 35 new routes within six months, which will mean more than 140 weekly departures from Arlanda.

Half of these destinations are new for the airport and complement Arlanda’s other destinations on offer. In conjunction with the establishment of its new base at Arlanda, Ryanair will also launch domestic service to Luleå and Visby from Arlanda.

“It is with great joy that we welcome Ryanair to Arlanda as well as their continued expansion in the Swedish market. The airline’s twelve new routes to exciting destinations in Europe, including two domestic ones, are an important addition and complement to the existing offering at our airports. At the same time, this improves access both within and outside Sweden, especially for the important family and friends travel segment. This access is important with the restart after the pandemic, and having more direct routes is important for growth in the region and the tourism industry all across Sweden. We have had a good collaboration with Ryanair for many years, which we now look forward to developing even further going forward,” says Charlotte Ljunggren, Director of Marketing & Sales at Swedavia.

Swedavia has carried out ambitious sustainability work for many years. All ten of its airports achieved the goal of zero fossil carbon dioxide emissions from their own operations by year-end 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the switch to biofuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used for refuelling at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025. Swedavia’s climate transition work and leading work to operate climate-smart airports has been honoured internationally, and in 2021 the aviation industry trade organisation ACI named Stockholm Arlanda Airport Eco-Innovation Airport of the Year.
