Saxlund International GmbH, a subsidiary of Opcon, the energy and environmental technology Group, has been awarded the exterior material handling contract for the bioenergy power plant being built by Viessmann for Prolignis Energie Consulting GmbH Co.KG, Ingolstadt, Germany. The biomass-fueled power plant will produce electricity and steam to be used in sterilising of medical equipment manufactured by B.Braun in Melsungen.

The scope includes the delivery of Saxlund’s solid and well-tested floor discharger systems, chain-, belt-, vibro- and ash conveyors as well as separation systems. Saxlund’s customer is HKB Ketelbouw B.V. – a subsidiary of the Viessmann Group, one of the leading international manufacturers of heating technology. Installation is expected to start in January 2014. Total order value amounts to about 7,5 m SEK.

“I am happy to see that the environmentally friendly biomass power production concept is starting to take root in more parts of industry. With the German “Energiewende”, we expect biomass to grow in order to increase the renewable element in Germany’s power production. Saxlund has around 60 years of experience mainly in biomass, recycling and treatment of wastewater. With extensive operations in Germany, the UK and Sweden, we can offer innovative and well-tested solutions within most applications and we know that we can be instrumental in ensuring high availability and efficiency for our customers”, says Christoph Groffmann, Managing Director of Saxlund International GmbH.

Saxlund and SRE are leading bioenergy brands and a part of Opcon’s Renewable Energy business area and its Waste To Value initiative with a special focus on Waste Heat Recovery and bioenergy. Within the bioenergy sector, Opcon offers everything from the design of complete combined heat and power (CHP) plants to handling systems and incineration plants under the Saxlund brand.
