Saxlund to deliver to Waste-to-Energy project in Zürich
Saxlund International GmbH, a fully-owned subsidiary of Opcon AB, the energy and environmental technology Group, has won an order from Outotec GmbH for the delivery of sludge handling equipment to the Waste-to-Energy solution at ERZ Entsorgung + Recycling Zürich’s new sludge incineration plant in Zürich. The sludge will be dried, burned and used as biofuel for the production of renewable heat and power. Total order value is about 6 m SEK and delivery is expected before summer 2014.
- Saxlund is happy to yet again be part of this development where we turn Waste to Energy in Zurich. Apart from increasing the use of renewable energy and decreasing our carbon foot-print, the incineration of sludge in these very modern incineration plants, significantly lowers the emissions of heavy metals like led, cadmium and mercury, says Christoph Groffmann, Managing Director of Saxlund International GmbH.
At the heart of the delivery is Saxlund’s separating and feeding technology, designed especially for sewage sludge and a major benefit in the efficient, low-maintenance and environmentally beneficial offer of Saxlund. Saxlund has earlier supplied ERZ Entsorgung + Recycling Zürich with Saxlund Solids Pumps and other handling equipment at two other co-combustion waste incineration plants in Zurich, the first of those in the year 2000.
- Since the passing of the German law prohibiting the use of sludge in landfill, Germany has spearheaded the development of Waste-to-Energy solutions in this field. With 20 years of experience in this field and high profile references such as Zurich, Stuttgart and Hamburg, Saxlund is established as a technology leader within this area, says Rolf Hasselström, CEO Opcon AB.
Saxlund and SRE are leading bioenergy brands and a part of Opcon’s Renewable Energy business area and its Waste To Value initiative with a special focus on Waste Heat Recovery and bioenergy. Within the bioenergy sector, Opcon offers everything from the design of complete combined heat and power (CHP) plants to handling systems and incineration plants under the Saxlund brand. Under the SRE brand, systems are supplied for treatment and improved energy efficiency for bioenergy-powered district heating plants, sawmills, pellets producers and commercial greenhouses. The offer also includes flue gas condensation equipment for industrial activities. The Opcon Group also supplies Opcon Powerbox for production of green electricity produced from hot water or wet steam.
