At last, the shipping company Viking Line will put tickets on sale for its climate-smart flagship, Viking Glory. The vessel, which will provide daily service on the Turku-Mariehamn-Stockholm route starting in early 2022, has capacity for 2,800 guests with 17 different categories of cabins for every need. Cabins have been designed by the Swedish architect firm Koncept and feature works by the Åland-based artist Jonas Wilén. Journeys that depart starting March 1, 2022, can be booked beginning on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

The shipping company Viking Line’s Viking Glory is currently under construction and will be one of the world’s most climate-smart vessels. The interiors of the vessel have been designed in partnership with the Swedish architect firm Koncept, who previously did the interiors for Marski Hotel in Helsinki, Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Åre and Haymarket by Scandic in Stockholm among others. Passengers will be able to choose from 922 different cabins in 17 different categories, from comfortable cabins for small travel parties to larger family cabins to luxurious suites.

“We have created beautiful, comfortable and inspiring cabin environments for different needs. On Glory, we also have the largest range of cabins with sea views in our entire fleet. The archipelago theme is reflected in the vessel’s furnishings as well as in the artistic works that decorate each cabin,” says Stig Pernell, intendant on Viking Glory.

The cabins on Viking Glory feature works by the Åland-based artist Jonas Wilén, who previously designed a number of Åland stamps and has shown his work at exhibitions in the Nordic countries and beyond, mostly recently at a summer exhibition together with Ernst Billgren. Jonas Wilén likes to work outside the established bounds of art and is known for his figurative oil paintings that have a humorous, down-to-earth style.

“It feels really nice as someone from Åland, who shares that great tradition of people from Åland of being on board a ship, to get this commission. I want the works to reflect from a distance what we see in our shared archipelago environments but closer up to reveal a multitude of small details and symbols. I hope passengers will appreciate my artistic contribution to the new Viking Glory,” says Jonas Wilén.

Journeys on Viking Glory that depart beginning March 1, 2022, can be booked at sales.vikingline.com starting on September 1, 2021. Along with its pleasant living accommodations, Viking Glory offers a wide range of lovely restaurants for world-class food experiences. Many of them can also be booked starting on September 1.
