Since 1994, Folkuniversitetet has leased just over 4,000 square meters on Norra Allégatan in Gothenburg from Wallenstam. This cooperation and lease agreement has recently been extended for another 10 years. By the summer, Wallenstam will begin renovation and reconstruction work in the property with sustainability in focus with regard to both administrative space and learning environments.

“We have had the pleasure of having Folkuniversitetet as a tenant for a total of 30 years now. I am proud that we have now managed to meet their future development needs and that we have received Folkuniversitetet’s continued confidence as a landlord for a long time to come,” says Marina Fritsche, Regional Director Gothenburg and Vice CEO of Wallenstam.

The renovation will be carried out in stages in order to minimize the impact on the regular operations. The heating system, lighting and surfaces will be checked in the entire property and the actual entrance will be moved slightly to help ensure a better flow and a more welcoming environment. The biggest change will occur in the upper level of the property which is used for administrative purposes. Here, larger group rooms and open office space will be created as well as a pleasant multilounge for all employees.

“We are happy that we have Wallenstam with us in our new long-term investment in popular adult education, vocational training and culture. Through the renovation, we will adapt the premises for the future and make them more inviting and representative of what  Folkuniversitetet stands for, in other words, openness, curiosity and change,” says Stig-Olov Blixt, Foundation Director/CEO at Folkuniversitetet, Region West.

Folkuniversitetet’s idea is to give people the tools to have a richer life through knowledge and creativity. Folkuniversitetet provides popular adult education involving the concept of life-long learning as well as adult education courses throughout Sweden. The organization emerged from the academic world in the 1930s and 1940s.
