Fall Family Fun at Wave Hill
Autumn at Wave Hill offers a bounty of adventurous activities for the whole family! Little ones will delight in experiencing the richness of the changing season, whether they prefer outdoor expeditions or artistic exploration. Every Saturday and Sunday throughout the fall, visitors explore the gardens and make nature-inspired creations at the Family Art Project. On the second Sunday in September, October and November, the Family Art Project is followed by a Family Walk with a Wave Hill naturalist, highlighting the medley of birds, insects and fall colors that enliven our beautiful grounds.
Birding enthusiasts ages ten and older—and accompanied by an adult—can join naturalist Gabriel Willow for avian adventures, including Fall Birding Walks, an Early Morning Bird Walk and a Birding Bootcamp. Get even closer to the natural world with Wave Hill’s nature demonstrations: meet woolly bear caterpillars with an environmental educator from the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, and, during the Sky Hunters in Flight Falconry Presentation, watch hawks, falcons and owls sharpen their hunting skills with master falconer Brian Bradley.
On Wave Hill’s signature Honey Weekend, your busy bees can participate in a special bee-themed Family Art Project, watch a honey-extraction demonstration, taste local, artisanal honey products in The Shop at Wave Hill and more! Then, join us during Enchanted Wave Hill Weekend for magical music, fairy tales, and crafts—your little fairies and gnomes will create their own, tiny woodland dwelling using sticks and other fallen materials.
Children ages eight and older, accompanied by an adult companion, will delight in the sounds of the Canal Street String Band, a 2014–2015 Concert Series performance. With a lively program featuring three voices, 55 string instruments and a pair of cow bones, the three-member band puts a brand-new shine on some seriously fun American music.
Events are free with admission to the grounds unless otherwise noted. Register, where required, at wavehill.org or onsite at the Perkins Visitor Center.
