LA STRADA, 7 – 9 June 2024

The Hanseatic City boasts a range of charming open-air events in summer. One of the real highlights of the summer cultural calendar in Bremen is the LA STRADA international street artists’ festival, with acts from all over the world transforming the city into a colourful stage. The open-air spectacular is one of biggest and most impressive of its kind, with numerous events featuring acrobats and artistes, dancers and dreamers, mime artists and musicians.

Breminale, 3 – 7 July 2024

Breminale is held in early July in the Osterdeichwiesen park on the bank of the Weser. For 35 years now, the five-day open-air culture festival has been wowing guests with a lively selection from the Bremen cultural scene. More than 120 artists across eight stages make for a varied musical experience. The programme is rounded off by some culinary treats including the ‘Deichbankett’, literally the ‘dyke banquet’, a three-course long-table feast of organic regional produce.

Bremen Seebühne, 12 July – 4 August 2024

Bremen Seebühne, the first and only stage in Northern Germany that sits directly on the river bank, is hosting a summer of exciting events in a range of genres, from pop through opera to children’s theatre, all organised by the Metropol Theater in Bremen. The first acts have already been confirmed and include big names such as American singer-songwriter Gregory Porter, DJ Fritz Kalkbrenner, rapper Clueso and perennial favourite Matthias Reim.

International Festival Maritim, 2 – 4 August 2024

Anchors aweigh for great songs at the annual International Festival Maritim. It showcases sea-songs and shanties from all over the world at a musical event amidst art, culture and curiosities in the north of Bremen. For three days, bands from Germany and all over the world and regional shanty choirs transform the district of Vegesack along the Weser into a maritime open-air stage.

Shakespeare in the Park, 14 – 18 August 2024

The internationally renowned Bremer Shakespeare Company sets up its stage against a really special backdrop every year: Set in the middle of the Bremer Bürgerpark on the meadow near the Melchersbrücke bridge, the Shakespeare in the Park festival is a wonderful open-air theatre experience. Surrounded by mighty trees and idyllic waterways, visitors can look forward to a total of seven performances, with ever-popular options including ‘Macbeth’ in English and a German-language version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Music Festival Bremen, 17 August – 7 September 2024

Music Festival Bremen adds an extra musical touch to late summer in the Hanseatic City and the north-west! It covers the emotional bandwidth of music in all its fascinating facets, with a range of events at different venues across different towns, including Bremen, Bremerhaven, and selected locations in the north-west. The variety typical of this famous classical festival is evident even from the opening night, aptly titled ‘Eine grosse Nachtmusik’.

Musik und Licht am Hollersee, 8 August 2024

Things get musical outside the Park Hotel in late summer, when the classical sounds of Musik und Licht fill up the area around the Hollersee lake. Every year, the free event features fireworks set to Handel’s ‘Music for the Royal Fireworks’ and pieces by Shostakovich, Mozart and Bizet. The sea of lights on the ground is created, among other things, by torches, proceeds from the sale of which go to the park and the orchestra.
