Veterinary hospital at Wihlborgs property in Helsingborg
In autumn 2024, AWAKE Djursjukhus (en: veterinary hospital) will open in the former post sorting centre (Posten 1) in Gåsebäck in southern Helsingborg. The high demand for qualified veterinary care is the reason for the expansion. The lease is for 2,000 square metres and extends for 15 years.
AWAKE Djursjukhus has already been providing emergency and specialist care for cats and dogs in Södermalm in Stockholm. The company is now expanding operations with AWAKE Djursjukhus Helsingborg, which will provide emergency and specialist care for cats and dogs in the same way, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. The company expects 20–25 employees to work at the hospital to begin with before an anticipated expansion.
Pet ownership has increased steadily in the past years and our pets are becoming older. This has resulted in an increased need for both emergency and specialist veterinary care. Despite this, there are few veterinary hospitals that provide round-the-clock care.
Prior to being acquired by Wihlborgs, the property was used as a post sorting centre. The City of Helsingborg’s archive is already a tenant at the property.
Gåsebäck is a developmental area in Helsingborg and its transformation was in part commenced by the City of Helsingborg. The objective is to develop Gåsebäck and Husarområdet as a vibrant city district that is home to a range of operations.
“It is clear that animal care is in high demand. By gathering specialist expertise and high-quality equipment at AWAKE Djursjukhus, we intend to be the obvious choice for advanced medicinal and surgical treatment,” says Michael Brückner, CEO of AWAKE Djursjukhus Helsingborg.
“The establishment of the new veterinary hospital is a key component in the strategic transformation of Gåsebäck into a city district with a mix of housing, businesses and green areas. The veterinary hospital will be a sought-after addition to the market which, with its generous opening hours, also boosts security in the neighbourhood and comprises an investment in animal health, new jobs and positive change in Gåsebäck,” says Alexandra Werder Hallonkvist, Head of Investment Promotion, City of Helsingborg.
“With the continual flow of employees and customers at all hours of the day, the new veterinary hospital will increase movement and safety in the area. The property is located in walking distance to the central parts of Helsingborg and has good access to public transport, making it easily accessible for all visitors and even those with four legs,” says Ulrika Hallengren, CEO of Wihlborgs.
