Wihlborgs ready to start construction at Science Village Scandinavia in Lund
Wihlborgs has acquired two sites at Science Village Scandinavia in north-east Lund, Sweden. The sites total approximately 4,700 m² of land area with development rights for about 12,000 m² of commercial space, including the district’s iconic building “Space,” which will house a hotel for researchers at Max IV and ESS.
Wihlborgs and Fojab Arkitekter won a competition for land allocation in 2015 for the Science Village and the iconic building “Space.” The building comprises about 6,300 m² GFA and will serve the Max IV and ESS research facilities with hotel facilities, conference premises and restaurants.
Earlier this autumn, the detailed development plan for the area was passed and Wihlborgs is now acquiring the land where “Space” is to be built as well as an adjacent site with the opportunity to build an additional 5,900 m² of commercial space.
“We are delighted to move forward with the hotel project and also to begin work in earnest on the design of the adjacent block. We see opportunities for offices, labs, educational premises and other operations,” says Ulrika Hallengren, CEO of Wihlborgs Fastigheter.
“We can now deepen our commitment in Brunnshög, which began with the construction of the Max IV laboratory. Max IV and ESS will attract researchers from across the globe and the area must now be developed to provide services to these visitors. Both Space and the adjacent block have an important role to play in this.”
“We are currently in negotiations with interested parties concerning the management of operations and we are ready to begin construction as soon as an agreement is signed.”
Wihlborgs has acquired the sites from Science Village Scandinavia AB and the transfer took place on 17 December 2018.
