Wihlborgs signs agreement with Volvo Cars for expansion in Lund
Wihlborgs has signed an agreement with Volvo Cars for an expansion of the company’s premises at the Ideon Science Park in Lund. Volvo is expanding its development operations in Lund considerably, from the current 2,000 m² to 7,000 m².
In autumn 2016, Volvo Cars established a 600 m² research and development centre at Ideon in Lund; since then, the operations have gradually expanded to the current 2,000 m². On 1 January 2020, Volvo will be moving into 7,000 m² at Delta 3, thus filling up its own building where continued development can be pursued.
The property will be used for Volvo Cars’ expanded operations in mobile digital services, which over the last two years have grown from 35 employees to 125 in Lund. The new agreement is valid for five years, and the building is located close to Ideontorget, where the new tram stop will enter operation in 2020.
“Volvo Cars’ considerable expansion of its operations at Ideon is a positive example of Ideon and Lund offering unique development opportunities in several areas of technology. We are also pleased to enable Volvo’s growth in our portfolio. Expansive, innovative operations put demands on us as property owners, and we need to offer flexibility in several different ways. Our local presence allows us to stay in close dialogue with our tenants about their development and future needs. And it’s important that we have the power to act quickly,” says Ulrika Hallengren, CEO of Wihlborgs Fastigheter.
“In Lund, we have access to attractive competence that is in demand with many companies. Proximity and strong collaboration with the university are cornerstones for Ideon and exciting developments await as a result of the major investments being made in Lund. Investments in infrastructure and in materia research facilities such as Max IV and ESS — the only ones of their kind in the world — create unique opportunities for the future,” Ulrika Hallengren says.
Over the last few years, a kind of vehicular cluster has been created at Ideon. In addition to Volvo Cars, Continental and Bosch have also established themselves there.
