Wihlborgs has signed a lease to let 1,300 m² at the Nya Vattentornet 2 property in Ideon Science Park in Lund to the Human Rights Institute.

Exciting developments are under way in northern Lund, and Ideon Science Park is a well-known, innovative research hub containing over 400 companies and providing 10,000 jobs. In addition to research and technology companies, public sector tenants and government agencies now see the potential here. The new Human Rights Institute (Swe: Institutet för mänskliga rättigheter) will be established on 1 January 2022 and has now signed a lease to move in to our iconic LEED Gold-certified building, Node, in Ideon Science Park.

“It’s great that we’re now taking a major step toward the concrete establishment of the Human Rights Institute. Now we can start to prepare the premises for operations so things can get off to a good start in January. Considering the amount of human rights expertise here in Lund and in the region, this location was an excellent choice by the government,” says Anna-Karin Lindblom, Inquiry Chair with the Government Offices of Sweden.

“Establishing the Human Rights Institute is another indication of how attractive northern Lund is. The area is already well-known for its research facilities, but this establishment will help create national and international visibility and recognition. We are proud to enjoy the confidence of another government agency and look forward to welcoming them and their employees to Node,” says Ulrika Hallengren, CEO of Wihlborgs.

The Human Rights Institute will open on 1 January 2022, which is when it will move into its new premises.

About the Human Rights Institute
In March 2021, the Swedish government submitted a proposal to the parliament for a new agency, the Human Rights Institute. The goal of the Institute is to help secure human rights at a national level. In June, the Swedish parliament voted on the proposal. The new institute will, among other tasks, follow, research and report on how human rights in Sweden are respected and realised. The Institute will also submit proposals to the government about measures needed to ensure human rights, but it will not investigate individual complaints about human rights violations.
