Today, WiMP releases a new version for its users of iPhone and iPad, including a number of improvements further strengthening the editorial profile of the service. The new WiMP on iOS makes it even easier for users to discover music. The WiMP editorial team provides daily tips and recommendations, which are now neatly displayed also on mobile devices. Finding similar artists to the ones you already enjoy, browsing critics favorites from external news magazines, further information on artists and albums and album booklets are also among the news.

WiMP is available in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany, and today, users can download an update for their mobile Apple devices, featuring further improvements to the award-winning service. WiMP has been hailed for its editorial content and in today’s update this is exactly what’s becoming even better.

Every day, WiMP editors showcase in the service what’s on in music in each of their markets, and provide their users with a number of activities. These can range from the latest news to various charts, recommendations, or different types of reviews of the giant catalogue through concepts such as “Retro of the week”, “Legends” or “Label focus”. These activities are now also properly displayed for mobile users, where they can scroll through the banners on their iPhone or iPad. Extended descriptions to the WiMP-editors’ various playlists have also been added to the new version.

“We’re pleased that our users can now also easily browse and enjoy even more of our editor’s tips and recommendations on their mobile devices, making the music experience on the go even more interesting. We especially believe users will enjoy diving into even more info about the artists including the new booklets,” says Thor Martin Jensen, Global editor of WiMP.

An added integration with metadata provider Rovi allows users to see extended information about artists and albums, as well as receive more and better tips for similar artists and albums they might want to listen to. Additional artist images are also added.

Booklets is another one of the big news in this update, where users can now open and browse the booklet with additional texts and images created for the albums, previously mostly connected to the physical versions.

WiMP-provider Popyoular is also further integrated into the new iOS-update, gathering reviews from a number of independent sources including Rolling Stone Magazine, NME, Pitchfork and Uncut plus a number of local newspapers and magazines in each country. The new version of WiMP features a separate section of critics’ favorites where users can browse the albums with the best reviews over different time periods. When browsing an album, users can also see recent reviews and a total popscore on the album directly.

After the update, WiMP also allows users to stream in high quality through 3G on their mobile, which was previously only available through WiFi.
