2012 GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW CANCELLED

Organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show have decided that the show will close at the end of today, and there will be no show tomorrow or Thursday. Announcing the news Show Director Bill Cowling said: “This has been the most difficult decision that I have ever had to make. It is heartbreaking for all concerned, our exhibitors, our visitors and, of course, our staff.  The decision has been made because our car parks have become too muddy to use with any safety, and the safety of our visitors has to come first. The entry figures for the competitive classes at the Great Yorkshire Show have been announced – and are the second highest in the event’s history. A total of 12,630 have been received for classes for everything from cattle to cheese and from show jumping to sheep shearing.  Announcing the figures Show Director, Bill Cowling said:”These are excellent figures and re-enforce our position as England’s premier agricultural show. Visitors to this year’s Great Yorkshire Show will be treated to a number of firsts when they take their seats in the hugely popular Skipton Building Society Fashion Pavilion. A FIRST WITH THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AT THE GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW

At what will be a unique occasion, The Yorkshire Regiment (1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment) is to exercise its Freedom of Harrogate at the 2012 Great Yorkshire Show. At the invitation of the organisers, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, 185 soldiers will parade around the show’s Main Ring wearing combat dress, with Colours flying and bayonets fixed. Stunning Stained Glass Panel Makes its Showground Debut

A medieval art form has been used to stunning effect, with the presentation of a stained glass panel to the Yorkshire Agricultural Society - best known as the organiser of the annual Great Yorkshire Show and its sister event, Countryside Live. Michael Bannister, a former President, commissioned the panel from York artist Julia Spall to mark his year in office and it was handed over to the Society’s Chief Executive, Nigel Pulling. GET SNAPPING FOR THE GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW

Photographers young and old are being urged to get out their cameras and capture some inspiring images of their favourite woodland. For the second year running, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, organiser of the Great Yorkshire Show, is challenging people to celebrate the splendour of the UK’s woodlands and forests by taking part in a photographic competition.
