Peab completes the new Baldershallen and Balder takes over as property owner
On 1 July, Sundsvall Tennis Club will receive the keys to the new Baldershallen at Baldershov. The newly constructed and reconstructed floor space together is equivalent to more than two full-size football pitches and is thus ready for occupation. In connection with completion, Fastighets AB Balder is acquiring the hall from Peab, which has also acted as the turnkey contractor for this major investment in Sundsvall.
The new Baldershallen will mean a substantial increase in capacity, particularly for children’s and youth sports in Sundsvall. With the new and reconstructed space, about 1,000 children and young people will be able to use the hall’s wide range of activities on a daily basis. Here, it will be possible to play different sports such as tennis, floorball, badminton, basketball, padel etc. at the same time. In the future, training sessions and competitions will take place in an ultra-modern sports complex. The open layout will operate a bit like a sports teaser, where people can easily see other athletes practicing their sport.
“As a former youth coach, it feels extra nice to be involved in developing a project with such a clear focus on children, young people and the sports movement. Even though we will have to wait until the autumn before we hear the first squeaky trainers, the laughter and whistles, I can see in front of me how many children and young people will now obtain better opportunities for physical activity,” says Göran Linder, Business Area Manager, Peab Project Development.
The huge investment was made possible by Peab, which acquired the property in 2020 and also acted as the project’s building contractor. It was recently confirmed that the property company Balder will take over as property owner and will lease the hall to Sundsvall Tennis Club.
“At Balder, we are proud to be part of the urban development and happy to be able to supplement our existing property portfolio of housing and premises in Sundsvall with this magnificent sports complex. The hall will make it possible for more people, and particularly for youngsters, to participate in active leisure activities,” says Cecilia Liljedahl Torhult, Regional Manager at Balder.
The expanded capacity will also benefit Sundsvall’s schools as more young people can use the sports complex. Previously, the hall was only able to accommodate two schools concurrently, now the capacity will increase to four schools. In the evenings, as many as 15 associations will be able to use the new and reconstructed space, which will deliver a substantial increase in capacity for the sports movement in Sundsvall. The new facility also makes it possible to arrange national and international competitions in a number of different sports, which can also make a positive contribution to the tourist trade in Sundsvall.
