Fazer purchases Seniori Ateria
Fazer Group continues the execution of its growth strategy and purchases the Seniori Ateria company. Seniori Ateria is a growing company that provides food service entities for senior citizens in private and sheltered homes all over Finland. As a result of this acquisition, Fazer Food Services will grow in the senior sector which is one of the chosen growth sectors in the food service business.
Fazer is strengthening its quality food service offering by acquiring Seniori Ateria, established in 2009. The company offers ageing people tailor-made tasty and healthy home meals. Their operations focus on customers, quality and innovativeness.
”Fazer wants to strengthen its position as the leading food service provider in the Nordic countries. We are now continuing to execute our growth strategy in Finland by acquiring Seniori Ateria, a growing company that offers quality home meals. This company specialises in taste sensations and customer service, just like Fazer,” says Christoph Vitzthum, President and CEO of Fazer Group.
“Fazer is the perfect choice for us,” says Managing Director of Seniori Ateria Lassi Nurmela. ”Our company shares the same values as Fazer and we are looking forward to further developing our concepts and offering with the help of a new, strong owner.”
Seniori Ateria provides food service entities for senior citizens in private and sheltered homes all over Finland. The number of employees is 20, 15 of whom work in the production plant in Naantali and 5 in the logistics centre in Tampere. The net sales of the company amount to ca two million euros. Fazer has offered food services in the senior sector since 2008. The acquisition of Seniori Ateria strengthens Fazer’s positions in the home meal service market.
“Our mission is to create taste sensations. Seniors are one of the chosen customer groups in our strategy whose needs we want to concentrate on in the future, and we want to offer taste sensations and new services to this growing group of people. In addition to a high-quality business, this acquisition brings Fazer a lot of competence in developing offering and acknowledging senior customers’ special needs,” says Managing Director of Fazer Food Services Finland Jaana Korhola.
The size of the senior market in Finland’s food services is around 300 million euros, out of which a share of some 55 million euros is outsourced. Fazer’s share in this is 14 million euros. There are approximately 465,000 over 75-year-olds in Finland at the moment. By 2030, it is estimated that the number of over 75-year-olds will grow to 820,000.
Municipalities and private companies are among Fazer’s clients in the senior sector. “Our clients are responsible for food services to senior citizens living in sheltered homes but also, to a growing extent, living at home. In the future, a growing number of Finnish senior citizens will live longer in their homes and to support their well-being, we want to offer tasty quality food, taking into account their individual needs”, says Jaana Korhola.
