Finavia calls for new commercial operators at Helsinki Airport
Finavia, the operator of 21 airports in Finland, has opened a public procurement procedure and is calling for new commercial operators at Finland’s largest international airport, Helsinki Airport. The tender will be executed according to the EU Concession Directive and includes a total of 13 new commercial spaces for retail and food & beverage.
“Helsinki Airport ranks as the best airport in Northern Europe. We are known for our continuously developing airport and we work hard with our partners to offer our air passengers as smooth and memorable a customer experience as possible. Our 20 million annual passengers in 2018 and anticipated strong passenger growth will offer an interesting and international customer base for any commercial operator”, says Elena Stenholm, Commercial Director and Vice President of Finavia at Helsinki Airport.
Finavia has a billion-euro development programme in progress in Helsinki Airport. The terminal space will increase by 45 per cent, expanding by a total of 103,000 square metres. With the programme, Finavia is preparing to serve 30 million passengers per year by 2030.
Under the current public procurement procedure, there are 13 commercial spaces available, totalling 1,081 square meters. Twelve of them are new and located in the up-coming Helsinki Airport T2-terminal Non-Schengen area and one of them already exists in the Schengen area. The spaces will be tendered in three categories:
- 5 spaces for premium retail, total of 507m²
- 4 spaces for high-end luxury retail, total of 243m²
- 4 spaces for F&B, total of 331m²
Premium and luxury retail include jewellery, watches, sunglasses, leather goods and fashion apparel. The premium shops and boutiques are due to open in summer/autumn 2019 and spring 2020 and the luxury retail units in spring 2020 and spring 2021, depending on the exact location.
Spaces reserved for Food & Beverage include a smoothie bar, a luxury tea-house, a champagne bar and a café. Depending on the location, they will open in autumn 2019, spring 2020 and summer 2021.
“The driving forces behind all commercial services at Helsinki Airport are high quality, diversity of offering and personal service excellence. As an international airport, we pay a lot of attention to the needs and preferences of many different nationalities, which is of particular relevance to the extending Non-Schengen terminal, with its fast-growing Asian and European clientele. We also aim to create a true Sense of Place and this will be clearly seen in the upcoming commercial offering as well as in visual, conceptual and digital solutions”, says Stenholm.
The tender is the biggest-ever for Helsinki Airport for the commercial spaces in the new Non-Schengen terminal area currently under construction. It was issued on 18 June 2018 in the Finnish national public procurement announcement system, HILMA , and in the TED (Tenders Electronic Daily), the online version of the 'Supplement to the Official Journal' of the EU, dedicated to European public procurement.
