Finnish National Opera participates in new live streaming service

In co-operation with 30 European opera houses, Opera Europa is launching the new OperaVision website, a direct continuation of the current The Opera Platform online service. The Finnish National Opera will broadcast three full-length productions on OperaVision. These include Finnish Jaakko Kuusisto’s Ice, which will have its world premiere in January 2019. Madeleine Onne proposed to become the Artistic Director of the Finnish National Ballet

The Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet decided upon the proposal today.In a meeting held today, on Friday September the 29th, the Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet decided to propose Madeleine Onne as the Artistic Director of the FNB. The proposal took place following a motion by the General Director Päivi Kärkkäinen, which had been unanimously supported by the nomination and remuneration committee appointed by the board. The board will make their final decision over the appointment of the Artistic Director after hearing personnel groups on October the 10th, 2017.

In January 2019 the Finnish National Opera will host the world premiere of a new opera from Finland based on Ulla-Lena Lundberg’s bestselling novel Ice. The novel was awarded the Finlandia prize, Finland’s most prestigious literary award, in 2012. The opera will be composed by Jaakko Kuusisto and the libretto in Finnish will be written by Juhani Koivisto. The director of the production will be Anna Kelo. Finland’s centenary celebrated at the Royal Danish Theatre with premiere of The Snow QueenQueen Margarethe of Denmark plans to attend the premiere of The Snow Queen to be performed by the Finnish National Ballet in Copenhagen next week, on Friday 27 January, along with Finland’s Prime Minister Juha Sipilä who will visit Denmark on a working visit and host the evening as chairman of the ‘Finland 100’ delegation.
