Gasum opens its first liquefied gas filling station in Borlänge, Sweden
On December 16, Gasum opens its 14th gas filling station for heavy duty vehicles (HDVs) in Sweden. The station in Borlänge is the first for liquefied gas in Dalarna and will be a filling station for heavy vehicles. At the moment, Gasum has 27 filling stations for HDVs around the Nordics. In the coming years Gasum is planning to increase its network in the Nordics up to 50 filling stations
Gasum's new station in Borlänge offers liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) for heavy duty vehicles. The filling station is conveniently located in an area with terminals and industry that experiences heavy traffic.
“We are very happy to be in Borlänge and to also continue to strengthen the gas infrastructure in Dalarna. Most of our customers have operations throughout Sweden, so the station in Borlänge is a welcome addition to the network of filling stations for them as well. Interest in gas as a fuel solution is steadily rising and thanks to government climate subsidies such as Klimatklivet, more than 800 gas-powered trucks are now making their way to Swedish roads,” says Mikael Antonsson, Director Traffic Sweden, Gasum.
According to the emission targets introduced by the EU in 2019, carbon dioxide emissions from heavy vehicles will have to be reduced by 30 percent by 2030. The goal at the national level in Sweden is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from road transport by 70 percent by 2030 compared to the 2010 levels. The need to reduce emissions at a rapid pace makes liquefied gas a good solution as it is already available and meets the requirements for reduced emissions. Gas has been recognized as a solution to decrease emissions in Sweden and several incentives are boosting this growth. The transition to cleaner road transport through the use of LNG trucks is taking place in different countries and the demand for new LNG trucks has increased all over Europe.
Borlänge strengthens Gasum's network in Central Sweden
The station in Borlänge is the latest addition to Gasum's network in Central Sweden. Gasum is planning to start production of LBG in the area.
The public filling station in Borlänge has been built in close collaboration with the region's largest logistics company MaserFrakt and TRB. TRB is a company that owns 12 large transportation and logistics operators around Sweden. Its network consists of approximately 7,000 vehicles. The Borlänge station is being built on MaserFrakt's property, which further strengthens the cooperation between MaserFrakt and Gasum.

"As the transport industry tries to meet rapidly increasing customer demand for low emission transport as well as reach EU and national emission targets, LBG and LNG will be very attractive fuel alternatives,” concludes Mikael Antonsson.
By using LBG, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to 90 percent compared to diesel. With LNG, carbon dioxide emissions are more than 20 percent lower than with conventional diesel. LNG and LBG can be used in the same infrastructure, which makes the transition from LNG to LBG simple and cost-effective.
