Digital transformation by IoT: Field service engineers dispatched automatically and predictively when traps require service, improving customer service and saving costs

IFS, the global enterprise applications company, announces that global pest control company Anticimex has implemented the IFS IoT Business Connector™ to turn IoT data captured from digital traps into predictive service actions in its business software suite, IFS Applications™.

For global pest control company Anticimex, with more than 4,000 employees in 17 countries, it is vital to provide premium customer service. For this reason, the company offers the Anticimex SMART concept, using digital traps that are equipped with sensors connected to the internet that automatically report movement, catches and other data such as battery levels. Anticimex today has more than 20,000 SMART traps installed across the world.

To further advance customer service efforts, Anticimex has implemented the IFS IoT Business Connector, which connects the data coming from the traps, through analytics in the cloud on Microsoft Azure, to actions in IFS Applications. The initial stage of the implementation has been successfully completed with Anticimex connecting nearly 3,000 digital traps across Finland.

In IFS Applications, service requests to dispatch a technician are created, for example, when analysis of trap battery levels indicate that the battery will need to be replaced soon, or the traps’ storage boxes are getting full and have to be emptied. By using the IFS IoT Business Connector, this process is fully automated, allowing Anticimex to take immediate action as soon as the IoT solution indicates an upcoming service need. The end result is better customer service and improved timeliness in service delivery.

The next step for Anticimex will be to roll out IFS IoT Business Connector into more countries to support their growing Anticimex SMART initiative, and also to deploy IFS Mobile Workforce Scheduling™ to optimize schedules and travel routes for their field technicians, thereby improving service levels even further.

“This is true digital transformation for Anticimex. We see enormous potential in harnessing IoT to offer intelligent pest control solutions that will provide premium customer service and at the same time save time, money, and the environment,” Anticimex CIO Daniel Spahr said. “By feeding sensor-captured data via the IFS IoT Business Connector into our business software IFS Applications, we are able to react much quicker to service needs and even work proactively to prevent problems before they arise.”

IFS CTO Dan Matthews added, “The Anticimex project is a great example of how we at IFS help our customers develop an IoT solution that enables them to not only gather and analyze IoT data, but also automatically take the correct actions based on that data in order to create a more service-oriented and cost-effective organization.”
