Peab has been commissioned to renovate the upper secondary school Lärkan in Helsinki. The customer is the City of Helsinki and the contract is worth EUR 18 million.

The upper secondary school is a culturally historic valuable building from 1962 which has not yet undergone a complete renovation. This has left many original surfaces and constructions intact. The renovation, which comprises the building’s facades, windows, outer doors and constructions, will be carried out so that the school’s characteristic features are preserved. All technology and classroom equipment will be updated as well. Even the schoolyard and other outdoor areas will be refurbished.

In addition to fundamental improvements, the teaching areas will be extended in the existing building with a new two story section.

“We have a great deal of experience in renovating schools in the capital city region. It’s wonderful to also be part of this project where we can use our expertise in renovating culturally historic buildings,” says Marko Rinkinen, Region Manager Peab Finland.

The project is a turnkey contract. Construction will begin in May 2023 and the project is expected to be completed in February 2025.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2023.
