Peab renovates swimming pool facility in Helsinki

Peab has been commissioned to renovate Finland's oldest swimming pool facility in Helsinki. The customer is the City of Helsinki and the contract is worth EUR 12 million.

The Yrjögatan swimming pool facility, designed by architect Väinö Vähäkallio and completed in 1928, is a historic, culturally and architecturally valuable building and is therefore protected. The interior in particular has a high architectural and artistic value.

The project includes upgrading water treatment, heating, ventilation and the hot water and electrical system as well as repairing waterproofing and damaged facades, windows and doors. At the same time Peab will also repair moisture-damaged structures and the roof’s flat surfaces as well as make changes in how some of the spaces in the swimming pool facility are used.

Energy efficiency will be improved through the introduction of a hot water recycling system. Safety will be improved by building firewalls between storage spaces used to store chemicals for water treatment in the basement.

"We’re proud to have been selected to renovate Finland's oldest swimming pool facility. The magnificent building motivates our team of experts to make it even more beautiful and functional," says Ilkka Laakeristo, Region Manager Peab.

The project will begin in June 2024 and is expected to be completed in November 2025.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2024.
