Railway Metrics and Dynamics Signs Agreement with Indonesian Artindo

In February 2024, RMD was selected for Business Sweden's prestigious Catalyst growth program, which helps Sweden's most innovative and promising companies with international expansion. The work that has been ongoing since then, has led to a partnership agreement with the Indonesian railway company Artindo.

The search for a partner in Indonesia began together with Business Sweden even before the Catalyst program became a reality.

– We have had good contacts in Indonesia for some time and we believe that the market has great potential, says Pelle Johansson, Railway Metrics and Dynamics' sales manager in Asia.

– Virtually the entire railway industry is state-owned. Finding the right partner is crucial to being able to approach the players operating in the country. Indonesia is a country that is really investing in new technology, and RMD's products are very well suited there, continues Pelle Johansson.

Indonesia is a country that wants to invest in railways, both in maintaining the existing infrastructure and in expansion. Jakarta has received a new subway line, and the high-speed rail line between Jakarta and Bandung is to be extended via Yogyakarta all the way to Surabaya on the eastern side of Java.

The railway network in the country needs to be expanded, to be able to transfer more freight to rail and thereby relieve the strained road system. New routes for passenger traffic also create opportunities for new economic growth regions, president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated in September last year.

The country is located in the area called the "Ring of Fire," where seismic activity is common. Such vulnerability makes continuous monitoring of both tracks and infrastructure particularly important.

– Our products and our "system-in-a-system" concept are very well suited for Indonesia. By preventing damage to both infrastructure and trains, derailments and serious accidents can be avoided, and maintenance can be planned efficiently. Extending the lifespan of investments would mean enormous savings, says Pelle Johansson.

– Our sensors are excellent for monitoring the condition of bridges and other infrastructure, which is particularly important given the geological challenges, he continues.

The partnership agreement has been signed and now a sales effort awaits – both through the partner Artindo, which will approach the market, and with the help of Business Sweden, which assists in contacts with the departments and the management of the state-owned Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

A meeting between these parties is scheduled for the end of July 2024, with the goal of formulating a first "proof-of-concept" project.

– We are confident that they will see the benefits of our products and our system if they just get to test and evaluate it, concludes Pelle Johansson.
