The change negotiations initiated by SSAB Europe’s Finland Business Unit in Raahe have concluded. The negotiations identified solutions that can deliver permanent cost savings of more than EUR 10 million annually in fixed costs. As a result of the negotiations, workforce reductions were avoided.

Negotiations started in September primarily due to continued weak demand. The solutions found include, for example, the development of working practices, job rotation and increasing multi-skills.

"Together we were able to add solutions to increase flexibility, mobility and versatility in the organization, for example, which is what we set out to pursue. The outcome of the change negotiations will also help us with preparations to switch to fossil-free steel production," says Jarkko Matkala, Site Manager Raahe at SSAB Europe.

The change negotiations concerned the organization of the Raahe Works and included approximately 2,400 people. In total, SSAB employs around 4,700 people in Finland.
