    The change negotiations initiated by SSAB Europe’s Finland Business Unit in Raahe have concluded. The negotiations identified solutions that can deliver permanent cost savings of more than EUR 10 million annually in fixed costs.     SSAB Raahe took a digital leap in the annual maintenance of the strip mill in the summer, when augmented reality (AR) was used for the first time in the supervision of installation work.     SSAB Raahe took a step in March toward a lighter and, from an environmental aspect, more sustainable world when maritime classification society DNV GL added the mill’s high-strength steel grade VL 690 to its product approvals.     SSAB Europe will carry out repairs and maintenance work at one of the two blast furnaces at the Raahe site in Finland.     Record 5,200 tonne megatrain transports SSAB’s steel from Raahe to Hämeenlinna

    The largest Finnish freight train in terms of volume started in regular traffic between Raahe and Hämeenlinna on April 30. This 5,200 tonne megatrain carries steel coils from Raahe to Hämeenlinna. Earlier, two trains a day transported steel coils, but from now on just one train will do the job. SSAB and VR Transpoint have created a new highly efficient business model for transporting steel coils between the two sites.     SSAB is to start using liquified natural gas (LNG) in the Raahe steel mill, where it will replace the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the walking beam furnace in the strip mill and be as a support and additional fuel in the boiler in Raahe Voima’s power plant.     Completion of SSAB’s negotiations to reduce workforce in Raahe

    SSAB initiated employer-employee negotiations in October at the production site in Raahe for reasons related to production, financial situation and operational restructuring. These negotiations have now been completed with the result that 180 jobs will be shed.The negotiations at the Raahe site affected the entire personnel, a total of 2,455 persons: all employees in production and support functions at SSAB Europe, SSAB Special Steels and group functions.
