SSAB and its subsidiary Ruukki Construction will this year again donate roofing products to the non-governmental organization OperationAid for the reconstruction of houses in Ukraine. In addition, SSAB will donate almost 20 tonnes of steel to make around 750 field stoves.

The roof profiles, flashings and fasteners donated by Ruukki Construction will be used to rebuild or repair the roofs of buildings damaged by the war in the Mykolaiv region. The products to be donated will be manufactured from SSAB color-coated steel at Ruukki’s plant near Kyiv. A total of around 3,000 m2 of steel will be donated for the roofs. The steel donated for the field stoves will be sent to Sarholms Plåtdetaljer AB, who will make the stoves.

OperationAid is a non-governmental organization working in Ukraine. The organization focuses on identifying the most urgent needs, raising funds, procuring necessities, and delivering humanitarian aid and medical equipment to Ukraine. SSAB and Ruukki Construction also donated roofing products and stoves to Ukraine through OperationAid in 2022 and 2023.

“We want to show Ukrainians our continued support. At the same time, we want to ensure the safety of our employees. There is a shortage of building products in the country and it is admirable that our Ukrainian employees have continued to provide high-quality roofing products and services to the country’s renovation industry,” says Christina Friborg, head of Sustainability at SSAB.

November saw Ruukki Ukraine celebrate its 27th year of operations. Ruukki Construction’s plant in Kopyliv near Kyiv is currently operating a few days a week. Ruukki has a total 63 employees in Ukraine.
