    Woodchips may reduce carbon dioxide emissions from blast furnace

    In a newly-started research project, the use of biocoal is being tested in blast furnace-based manufacturing of steel. This is a new method which may reduce fossil CO2 emissions by up to 30%.     SSAB gives notice of redundancy regarding 450 employees

    SSAB has today given notice of redundancy affecting 450 employees in the Swedish operations. The measures constitute part of the previously announced efficiency program within SSAB EMEA.SSAB EMEA is currently carrying out an efficiency program aimed at increasing flexibility throughout the entire business operation.     In response to improved demand for quenched steels, first and foremost within SSAB Americas, SSAB is planning to increase hot metal production in Oxelösund.
