Waste heat from SSAB Hämeenlinna feeds into Loimua’s district heating network
The heating and cooling plant built by energy company Loimua at SSAB’s Hämeenlinna site is now complete and operational. The plant utilizes waste heat from SSAB Hämeenlinna in the city’s district heating network and covers about 15% of Hämeenlinna’s district heating needs.
“This project supports SSAB’s sustainability goals. It’s great that industrial waste heat can be used for city heating in this way. We have previously delivered small amounts of heat energy recovered from the flue gases of galvanizing line 2 to Loimua, and the cooperation has worked well,” says Mikko Lepistö,
