I look back on the Stena Foundation's first 25 years with pride. We have had the privilege of following many interesting projects from idea to implementation in research, as well as numerous brilliant cultural initiatives. Behind each project are extremely committed and talented people. It has been fantastic to be able to bring their visions to life. Together, we share a motivation to reach out and make a difference for many people. Since we have our roots here in West Sweden, there has also a been a desire from the beginning to work as good citizens; to share and to give back when we have the opportunity.

I feel enormously grateful and honoured to receive the Stena Foundation scholarship. To have the chance to start this film lab, together with the Gothenburg Film Festival, to inspire young people and create opportunities for them to explore the world of film is something I am extremely excited about.

The passion Alicia Vikander shows to increase young people's opportunities to access cinematic expression is extremely inspiring. It will be fantastic to further develop the film festival's educational work in collaboration with her and the Stena Foundation. And who better to inspire young people in Gothenburg than Alicia who has proved that there is no limit to how far you can go.

We are very pleased about Alicia Vikander's initiative and the Gothenburg Film Festival's commitment. We want to give more children and young people access to film as a form and means of expression. At the same time, we want to promote young people's life and development opportunities in Gothenburg, and we see that this project can contribute to that.

It is with great pleasure that we present our two jubilee culture scholars and our honorary scholar. They are three exceptional artists with international careers and strong connections to Gothenburg. Over the years, 155 cultural scholarships have been awarded. We track the continued successes and development of previous scholars with great interest.

I have never understood the idea of keeping knowledge to myself. If I learn something new and exciting, I immediately want to share it with others, to pass it on. I, myself have had the privilege of experiencing that kind of generosity from my teachers, mentors and colleagues. Now it's my turn.

For me, the presence and freedom in rock climbing is related to my experiences of my artistic work. As an artist, I myself decide what the work is about, and it is my responsibility to take care of it. The better I get at what I do, the more independent I feel. But neither in the mountains nor in art do I have the last word.

I love making movies, but rarely watch them when they are finished. The best part is sitting in the editing room and seeing how small, tiny shifts can change the interpretation of an entire scene.

Since we have our roots here in West Sweden, there has also a been a desire from the beginning to work as good citizens; to share and to give back when we have the opportunity.

This year we have chosen to support several projects with a focus on children and young people, for example the organization Förebildarna (The Role Modellers), which gathers a large number of motivated and committed young people for training in entrepreneurial skills, and also the organization Maskrosbarn (Dandelion Children), which helps children of parents who have problems with addiction or mental illness. In late spring, we facilitated the spectacular inauguration of the Science Festival, at which the researcher Max Tegmark at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) participated in the form of an interactive hologram, live on stage. In 2018, the SII-Lab (Stena Industry Innovation Laboratory), a laboratory for industrial digitalization, was inaugurated at Lindholmen, and a project for a Centre for Bone Marrow Trauma has been initiated in collaboration with the Sahlgrenska Academy. As usual, we now in December award scholarships to prominent cultural practitioners in different fields of art. It is a great pleasure to have been able to support all the talented scholars over the years. Since the Foundation started 22 years ago, 130 scholarships have been awarded. We hope that they will come to good use and contribute to continued development and personal success.
