Habitat Conservation Plan Will Protect California Condor and 24 Other Species

Tejon Ranch, Calif. – U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe joined Tejon Ranch Company President and CEO Robert A. Service Science Advisor Named to Federal Climate Change Advisory Committee

Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today announced the members of a newly created federal advisory committee who will provide guidance about the Interior Department’s climate change adaptation science initiatives. Among the newly appointed members is Dr. Gabriela Chavarria, Science Advisor to the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. $475 Million in Hurricane Sandy Relief to Refuges and Parks

Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today announced that the Department is releasing $475.25 million in emergency Hurricane Sandy disaster relief appropriations to 234 projects that will repair and rebuild parks, refuges and other Interior assets damaged by the storm. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will allocate $64.6 million for 55 projects to repair and restore refuges, hatcheries, and other facilities and to restore wildlife habitat. Comment Period on Lesser Prairie-Chicken Listing Proposal Reopened

The public comment period on our 2012 proposal to add the lesser prairie-chicken to the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife will be reopened for 45 days. Reopening our comment period will allow the public, the scientific community and other interested parties to provide input on the original listing proposal in light of a newly-released range-wide conservation plan for the species.
