A brief service interruption for upgrading purposes
Viking Line will continue the renewal of the M/S Mariella during a brief pause in service during 10–22 September. The ship underwent a significant overhaul in spring 2015 with the renovation of its cabins and restaurants. The work now continues with the renovation of the café and adjoining children’s play area, and, for example, the reorganisation of the ship’s tax-free shop. The ship will also undergo several technical upgrades.
During the brief dry docking, the M/S Mariella will undergo the renewal of the Coffee & Joy café. The same café concept has already received positive feedback on the sister ship, M/S Gabriella. The idea is to offer even more homemade baked goods and a broad range of special coffees. The ship’s newly recruited pastry chef will be in charge of providing freshly-baked goods and desserts.
In connection with the café renovation, the adjoining children’s play area will also be renovated. The changes to the tax-free shop will be minor. The aim is to more efficiently promote those product groups that are rising in popularity, such as fashion and beauty products, while also refreshing the selection of table and sparkling wines. The ship will also undergo other small changes, for example in the buffet restaurant.
“Our ships are briefly taken out of service, on average, once every two years, since we hold technical maintenance and upgrades to be a crucial element of our operations. At the same time, this allows us the possibility to renew our ships to meet the changing trends and wishes of our passengers,” explains Lauri Orpana, Route Manager for Viking Line.
Viking Line has actively been upgrading its fleet during recent years. The current year saw renovations to the M/S Viking XPRS. Extensive renovations were carried out on the M/S Gabriella in spring 2016, following the successful renovations of the M/S Amorella and the M/S Mariella in 2015. Our aim is to offer today’s passengers the quality accommodation, trendy onboard entertainment and great shopping opportunities that they are looking for.
