New luxurious offering in Viking Line’s à la carte restaurants – our seafood buffet celebrates the delicacies of the Baltic Sea

To celebrate the holiday season, a luxurious seafood buffet will be laid out in Viking Line’s à la carte restaurants, offering everything from lobster to oysters. Passengers’ interest in seafood has been increasing year after year.

Starting November 12, Viking Line will offer a generous seafood buffet in our vessels’ à la carte restaurants. We will be serving , among other delicacies, lobster, crab claws, langoustines, mussels and the Swedish classic skagenröra (prawns in mayonnaise on toast), made with hand-peeled prawns.

“Our seafood buffet celebrates the delicacies of the Baltic Sea, which are mostly sourced from the west coast of Sweden. Our seafood platter has long been one of the most popular dishes in our à la carte-restaurants. In Sweden, seafood is an important part of the country’s food culture, and year after year our Finnish passengers are also increasingly interested in seafood,” says Viking Line Restaurant Manager, Janne Lindholm.

“Guests choosing our generous buffet can try different delicacies or focus on their favourites. If it’s the first time that someone is eating seafood, our staff is happy to help with instructions.”

The seafood buffet will be on offer for almost a month, during the holiday season at the end of the year. Viking Line predicts that this new option will be popular and recommends booking in advance since the Christmas season is an intense season on board.

“When we present our seafood buffet, the focus is on the beautiful arrangement with its touch of luxury. The buffet has been created to appeal to all the senses: the seafood is placed on a bed of ice and oysters are served at the table. The buffet looks delicious – and tastes even better,” says Janne Lindholm.

The new buffet got its inspiration from the vessel Birka Gotland, which offers a similar concept that is greatly appreciated by Swedes sailing between Stockholm and Mariehamn. Viking Line owns Birka Gotland in partnership with Gotlandsbolaget and is in charge of restaurant operations on board the vessel.

“One of our waiters was delighted with Birka Gotland’s seafood buffet and messaged me: can’t we do something similar? The idea stayed with me, and now it will finally become a reality,” notes Janne Lindholm.
