Travel to and from Tallinn ramps up for the summer – Viking Line prepares with additional departures

Viking Line will once again increase its capacity on its HelsinkiTallinn routes for the summer months between 14 June and 11 August 2019. Tourism in Estonia is undergoing a change and the resulting traffic is growing in both directions. Additional departures will accommodate the increased demand during the summer season, thereby offering travel options, in particular, for families and shoppers. The additional departures to Tallinn will take place when the M/S Gabriella and M/S Mariella, which generally travel to and from Stockholm, are in Helsinki.

The number of passengers travelling to Tallinn increases significantly during the summer months. Viking Line has been providing additional summer departures since 2014. They are a desired and necessary reinforcement during the busiest season of the year.

“Our short picnic cruises have become one of Viking Line’s most popular summer products. Especially families with young children have enjoyed our carefree, six-hour cruises. We organise a whole host of programmes for children on our cruises. During the picnic cruise aboard the M/S Mariella, for example, there are eight different supervised activities for children. Adults can enjoy our fabulous restaurants and opportunities to make duty paid purchases at Shopping World,” states Kaj Takolander, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Viking Line.

Tourism in Estonia is changing and there is no longer a "typical" tourist to Tallinn. Due to the fast and easy connections from both Helsinki and Tallinn, people are finding it a convenient way to get the products, services and fun experiences they are looking for.

“The shopping opportunities in Tallinn have developed rapidly and many travellers are simply looking to expand their shopping experiences. The Porto Franco centre being built near the Viking Line terminal will further increase the possibilities. Tallinn also has a great range of restaurant options and temptingly inexpensive prices. Nowadays, simply having lunch in a good restaurant is reason enough for many to travel to Tallinn for the day,” explains Takolander.
