The REPAIR project aims to develop a new approach and clinically applicable method in cardiac contraction assistance. Current medical or surgical treatments cannot restore muscular contractility in heart failure and atrial fibrillation, two of the most common and serious cardiac diseases. A revolutionary approach would be to use smart materials to support or restore cardiac mechanical function. The interdisciplinary team involved will develop prototypes of implantable autonomous devices made with smart materials and interplaying with cardiac rhythm monitor/control systems in situ. This
