The Finnish Food Authority and the National Institute for Health and Welfare have been studying the occurrence of Legionella bacteria in organic soil improvers and growing media. More than 90 per cent of the samples studied contained Legionella, some of them in great numbers. The results of the study support the view that Legionella bacteria are commonly found in soil and in different organic fertilizer products.
