During 2021, Posiva's EKA project, comprising of the construction of an encapsulation plant and an underground final disposal facility for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel, has progressed as planned.In May, the excavation of the first five actual deposition tunnels – which are accessed via the central tunnels – was started in ONKALO at a depth of approximately 430 metres.
