It can be estimated that 30% of the total energy consumption of a cruise ship comes from HVAC for public spaces as well as accommodation and galley ventilation. This has a major impact on profitability and environmental issues. The demand for more energy efficient systems and greener technologies has been the starting point for the design of the modern galley ventilation system M.A.R.V.E.L. at Halton.

Halton M.A.R.V.E.L. is the first truly intelligent, responsive, and completely flexible demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) system specifically designed for Halton hoods.  Compared to traditional hoods, the Halton M.A.R.V.E.L. system, combined with the Halton Capture Jet technology can save up to 50 % in galley energy consumption. This also contributes to environmental effiiency.

Halton has delivered M.A.R.V.E.L. to over 40 land-based projects, such as kitchens of hotels, schools, health-care facilities, restaurants, shopping centres and universities to name a few. The system has been awarde with:

  • Finnbuild 2010 Highlights Innovation Award, Finland
  • Food Hospitality Innovation Award 2010, The Netherlands
  • EuroGastro 2011 Award, Poland
  • Food Service Consultant Society International’s (FSCI) Honourable Mention for Innovation 2011

The feedback from facility owners and system users has been positive, and in many cases, the system has proven to provide better energy efficiency than expected.

As M.A.R.V.E.L. continues its revolution in kitchens, Halton Marine is proud to announce that the first M.A.R.V.E.L. system for a major cruise ship is now in order and will be delivered in 2012.
