BABY GORILLA IS EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR BLACKPOOL ZOO

Christmas has come early for Blackpool Zoo  following the birth of a critically endangered Western Lowland Gorilla. Njema, who is 19, gave birth to a healthy baby in the early hours of November 8th following a natural and uncomplicated labour. The baby, whose sex is yet to be determined, has been an instant hit with two year old Meisie the gorilla, who is intrigued at the prospect of having a new playmate! First time mother Njema underwent revolutionary fertility testing earlier this year after keepers became concerned that she had not conceived.

….And tiger makes two at Blackpool Zoo!....Zambar the Amur Tiger is all smiles now his new mate has moved in at Blackpool Zoo! Alyona, who is four years old, arrived from her birthplace SafariparkBeekse Bergen in the Netherlands on Tuesday 18th September and is currently settling into her new home in the Big Cat house. Over the coming weeks Zambar and Alyona will be gradually introduced and keepers are hoping for the pitter patter of tiny stripy feet in the not-too-distant future. CORRIE FAVOURITE MICHELLE KEEGAN SET TO APPEAR AT THE MALL BLACKBURN

ELEPHANT’S VIP BIRTHDAY PARTY RAISES £3800 FOR CHARITY!

More than 700 members and guests gathered at Blackpool Zoo to celebrate the 40th birthday of Marcella the Asian elephant. The special event, which raised a fantastic £3800 for The Biodiversity and Elephant Conservation Trust, was held after hours on Wednesday 22nd August from 6.00pm to 9.00pm. Everyone, including the animals, enjoyed the late sunshine and there was plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Talks and displays included birds, giraffes, penguins, sealions, lemurs and wolves and the night ended with Marcella being presented with a huge elephant sized birthday cake!

CARIBBEAN SUN SHINES IN BLACKPOOL DURING BUMPER BIRD YEAR!

Nine Caribbean flamingo chicks are soaking up some homeland sun in Blackpool Zoo ’s bird nursery! The eight week old hatchlings are spending their days under specialist heat lamps as keepers hand rear them and make them feel at home with a daily dose of sunshine. They are also being fed round the clock on a fluid mixture of fish, shrimp, egg yolk, distilled water, flamingo pellets and vitamins and minerals. REINA AND DIAMANTE ARE ROYAL BANK HOLIDAY DEBUTANTES

Two of Blackpool Zoo’s  latest arrivals have been given Spanish names with a regal ring in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. February will be a month long celebration of animal attraction at Blackpool Zoo! The half-term holiday, Valentine’s Day and the leap year tradition of female proposals on the 29th are being dubbed as the perfect time to ‘Woo at the Zoo’! For the first time ever, the zoo is giving the public the chance to officially pop the question with the boys getting the chance on Valentine’s Day and the girls on the 29th. HALF TERM HALLOWEEN HOWLS AT BLACKPOOL ZOO

Blackpool Zoo is really getting into the ‘spirit’ of Halloween with a half-term week packed with spooky activities. From Saturday 22nd to 30th October little ghouls and goblins can try their hand at pumpkin carving at 11.30am in the Children’s Farm.
