Over the last five years, AI has been a hot topic within healthcare, and we are seeing the early adopters; predominately in diagnostic imaging. It is encouraging to see Canadian hospitals embrace AI for both research and clinical use, leading to higher-quality patient care for our population. We designed our AW Advanced Visualization family to be an open ecosystem and enable technology integrations — this one with Sectra is a great example. This potential integration aims to increase accessibility and functionality — not only to help clinicians save time and increase productivity, but also streamlining the cardiology care pathway by easing the transition between applications — or even workstations — and reducing total number of clicks.

As radiology becomes increasingly specialized, the demand on radiologists intensifies and many more are experiencing burnout. Combating these challenges and addressing the shortage in radiology is our top priority as a diagnostic software company, simplifying daily tasks and ensuring instant access to crucial tools.

Radiologists today face increasing workloads and the risk of burnout. While we may be unable to decrease the number of imaging studies or increase the number of radiologists, our technology can enhance workflow efficiency and improve work-life balance. We aim to address this and other important topics through discussions and live demos at this year’s RSNA, with the goal of relieving some of radiologists’ burdens.

Deploying Sectra One Cloud at Guelph General Hospital has set the stage for future cloud deliveries across the nation, and it marks a new era of enterprise imaging. Our team looks forward to supporting Guelph General Hospital in their digital transformation as they continue to grow.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Sectra in utilizing their education portal in our medical simulation training across our campuses. Our mission is to improve patient care and reduce clinical risks through the use of simulation in the training, and Sectra's technology will allow us to study real-life clinical images. This greatly compliments the simulation experience making our students even more prepared for the professional environments to come. Moreover, the possibility to log in from multiple devices gives us the opportunity to use the solution at different campuses simultaneously.

Simulation training is an excellent tool in preparing the students for real-life situations. With the portal’s visualization tools and library of real clinical cases, combined with SIMNOVA’s simulation environments, the students will be able to educate themselves and safely practice through real-life scenarios. We look forward to contributing to these students’ education by offering solutions that facilitate advanced learning, in turn paving the way for improved patient care in the future.

We are looking forward to implement Sectra’s digital pathology solution. It will definitely enhance diagnostic capabilities, efficiency, collaboration and research potential. Digitizing pathology will allow us to take advantage of our network’s capacities, as well as improve our reporting time and by doing so we will provide diagnosis faster and in a more efficient way.

The first quarter was characterized by significant trust shown by customers in both secure communication and medical imaging IT. We are experiencing a turnaround in secure communication, with high demand and deliveries. We also passed important milestones in the transition to cloud-based solutions for medical diagnostic imaging. These successes demonstrate the value we provide for our customers and that our long-term initiatives in research and development are paying off.

All operating areas are showing strong sales growth, which is a result of our desire to have satisfied customers and to offer the latest technology in our areas. I am pleased to report that in the most recent quarter, it was Secure Communications that displayed the strongest improvement. The operating area has achieved a turnaround after a few tough years and the future now looks bright. 

Sectra’s success is the result of a long-term approach—both to research and development and when it comes to establishing good relationships with satisfied customers who then expand their use of Sectra’s solutions and recommend us to others. The major procurement we secured in the US during the quarter is an excellent example of this. Our relationship began when we developed a solution for ophthalmology imaging that the customer has been using for the past few years. Now that they plan to replace their old system for radiology, they have decided to continue building on a solution and supplier with whom they are satisfied and expand their system to include our services for medical diagnostic imaging, Sectra One Cloud.

Health systems are under tremendous pressure to maintain patient excellence while balancing growing financial and staffing concerns. Regardless of size or infrastructure challenges, Sectra is focused on driving down the costs and complexity of traditional on-premise solutions with highly scalable, high-performance enterprise imaging solutions as a service. We are thrilled for the opportunity to help this health leader execute a long-term multi-departmental imaging strategy as they focus on growing quality and sustainability in their health system.

It will support us in shaping the digital future of our hospital as it allows us to easily expand to other medical specialties and departments. The solution will also streamline our radiologists’ workflow, provide them with user-friendly tools and enable them to collaborate more effectively to ultimately deliver better patient care. We won larger orders than ever before, received distinctions for high levels of customer satisfaction and cybersecurity, and were even ranked as one of the best employers in Sweden. These are just some examples of why 2022/2023 was yet another successful year. These positive results are proof of our ability to deliver value and build a long-term sustainable business.

Sectra’s growth strategy is built on taking good care of our customers. In turn, they expand their use of our solutions and recommend us to others. The inherent growth in our business models has offset the effects of the ongoing shift to services and cloud deliveries, which means that certain sales and earnings will be reported later in time. At the same time, currency movements were incredibly advantageous for us and compensated somewhat for this transition.

The need for increased productivity in healthcare and increased cybersecurity is greater than ever, and Sectra is well positioned to meet these challenges. Our plan for the future is to continue doing what we do well: customer satisfaction, innovation and corporate culture as well as delivering secure, scalable and user-friendly solutions that generate value within medical IT and cybersecurity.

We are excited to begin working together in a more uniform way, and Sectra’s solution will open up that path for us by providing a unified imaging platform that is well integrated with our current IT systems.

Moreover, the managed service and it being deployed in the cloud will give us more time to focus on the care of our patients.

We have identified growth opportunities in the cybersecurity area, where we see a growing need for both advisory and monitoring services to address the intensifying cybersecurity risks within critical infrastructure. Sectra’s already well-developed and established offering of monitoring services will therefore be an excellent complement to our services. We are looking forward to working with Sectra and providing joint support for our customers in tackling the challenges of OT security, which requires continuous development and a broad understanding of the risks that can arise in these complex systems, and how adequate security is created.

We saw the need for monitoring services for cybersecurity in critical infrastructure at an early stage and are convinced that this partnership will achieve additional synergies and lead to more growth. In AFRY, we have found a partner with strong expertise in OT security, and an established, broad customer base. We are convinced that our combined expertise in security assessments, monitoring and incident management will increase the security and availability of our customers’ production systems. This, in turn, will benefit society as a whole by increasing the resilience of critical operations such as electricity generation, energy distribution and water supply.

It is crucial for us to always be able to communicate classified information, regardless of where and when it is needed. Our users also need to feel confident in the products they are using when discussing sensitive topics. Hence, we chose Sectra’s encryption solution since it is approved and used by similar government organizations in other EU countries.

Given the unstable security situation in Europe, there is an increased need within many organizations for secure and approved solutions that can facilitate the exchange of highly classified information. This order shows that our solutions meet these high demands and thereby ensure that the exchanged information stays secure at all times. It is an honor to support the governmental officials in their daily work and to contribute to the information security of the Republic of Finland.

The need for secure and robust communication systems with high availability is greater than ever before. A quantum-resilient solution is therefore a necessity for our NATO customers to uphold their digital sovereignty. This approval confirms that our latest version of Sectra Tiger/S withstands today’s and future threats.

It has the potential to impact patient care in Poland, especially in complex diagnostics such as cancer.

Going digital also sets the stage for implementing more AI-based technology, which both can increase diagnostic precision and relieve some of the pathologists’ workload.

We work every day to maintain a high level of delivery reliability in our electricity grid. We conduct maintenance and service on the grid to reduce the number of unplanned interruptions. By continually investing in the grid, we create the necessary conditions for continued growth in the region. Sectra’s monitoring solution will support us in detecting potential security risks, thereby helping to create greater security for our customers.

Helping our customers to maintain continuous operations is an important task for Sectra since interruptions can have major consequences for society, which is reliant on electricity production. Our current infrastructure needs to be replaced, giving us the perfect opportunity to move over to Sectra’s cloud solution. We’ve been a happy customer of Sectra for many years, so letting them take full responsibly for our IT operations was an easy choice. Moving to the cloud will reduce our IT burden, giving us the time to focus on our users.

Many healthcare providers are currently facing challenges when it comes to high workloads and a lack of resources. In addition, secure communication and sharing of sensitive data has never been more important. As a result, we are seeing increasing interest in cloud services. I’m happy that Zuyderland remains satisfied with us as their technology provider, and I am proud of being trusted to manage their IT infrastructure.

This program will push the boundaries of cancer research and how we work. It has the potential to transform clinical trials, change who can do research and development, and lead to the creation of new targeted treatments for cancer patients. The potential is vast. We will be able to understand mutations and when things go wrong in DNA, and importantly, whether that transpires into what clinicians see in medical imaging. We can also expose data to AI in new ways. Working with Sectra in an innovative way is an important part of our initiative. The imaging system is already a very recognizable interface in NHS clinical settings, but we are using it in new ways. It will help us harness imaging that we can then match to our genomic data, while de-identifying data to ensure confidentiality. The resulting multimodal dataset will enable important research and support a safe and secure but accessible cloud-based research environment. That means many more people than bioinformaticians will be able to harness genomic, pathology and radiology data.

This is an inspirational initiative that could help to change our understanding of cancers and other illnesses. We have been working with the NHS for decades to deliver digital maturity to diagnostic environments including radiology and pathology. This project makes greater use of that work, with exciting possibilities for research that could be immense. I eagerly look forward to seeing research emerge, and from that the potential for life-changing and life-saving treatments for patients.

The secure exchange of information between and within authorities, without the risk of eavesdropping, has never been more important. This continued collaboration with Swedish authorities confirms that Sectra plays an important role in the Swedish civil and military defense’s ability to exchange information securely and efficiently. Sectra’s financial targets and strategic ambitions remain unchanged. The need for greater productivity in healthcare and for cybersecurity is more important than ever. Within the medical area, consolidation and cybersecurity are driving a move to the cloud, and we are in the process of transitioning to service sales and cloud-based deliveries. Although this transition will have a short-term dampening effect on our financial growth, it will benefit us and our customers over the long term. Within the area of cybersecurity, the situation in Europe and the need for secure data, within mobile applications in particular, are strong factors for our future growth. The challenges many healthcare providers are facing today pertain to increased workloads and constrained budgets and resources. Cost containments, preventing staff burnout and cybersecurity concerns are growing in importance. Therefore, having fewer but more effective IT systems, such as for imaging, across several hospitals and/or across different image types and diagnostic specialties is crucial. Our prediction is that enterprise imaging with all medical images in one solution, creating a ‘pixel EMR,’ is what customers will strive for in the future.

Access to resources when and where they are needed is increasingly becoming a challenge. Cooperating around both workload balancing and specialist expertise is therefore critical, especially in the treatment of complex diseases such as cancer where time to treatment and follow-up is of the utmost importance. Digitizing pathology with a joint solution will strengthen our ability to provide excellent care across the two hospitals.

Many healthcare providers, regardless of diagnostic specialty, are facing challenges with increased workloads and a lack of resources. Utilizing imaging IT, across hospitals or across diagnostic specialties, is an important piece of the puzzle. I’m looking forward to working with these two healthcare providers who are looking beyond country borders to provide their patients with timely and high-quality diagnostics.
