Ruukki Construction, part of SSAB, has signed an agreement with travel company Experience Pyhä Oy on the delivery of Ruukki® Classic LowCarbon roofs made of SSAB Fossil-free™ steel to the investment company's ecological holiday destination in Pyhätunturi, Finnish Lapland. In the future, roofing such as pilot roofs installed in Honkatalot™ villas will have up to 70% lower climate impact than those made of traditionally manufactured steel.

Ruukki will deliver pilot products made of fossil-free steel as well as high-quality rainwater systems and roof safety products included in the roof package to Experience Pyhä Oy's Sunday Morning Resort located at the foot of Pyhätunturi fell in Eastern Lapland, Finland. The supplier of the frames and wooden parts of the expansion project is Honkatalot, which will build a total of 20 ultra-modern villas in the sustainable resort.

Eleven of the villas will be built this summer and the rest later.

The new villas take into account the requirements of sustainable development in a unique way. Sunday Morning Resort has received Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) pioneer status and certification for its work for sustainable tourism.

For five years, the ventilation of all the resort's buildings has been controlled based on carbon dioxide measurements to save energy. In addition, waste heat from the exhaust air of buildings is recovered, heat is produced with ground- or air-source heat pumps, electrical energy is produced by the resort’s own solar power plant, and the crown of the comprehensive recycling system is a biocomposting station, which produces nutrient-rich soil used to grow root vegetables on the resort's own fields to be served in the hotel restaurant. Ruukki Classic LowCarbon roofing made of SSAB’s fossil-free steel was therefore a natural and obvious choice for the new Aamu suites.

"It is great that we can continue Sunday Morning Resort's pioneering policy in offering carbon-neutral accommodation solutions in cooperation with Ruukki and Honkatalo. We thank all parties for this step towards a more sustainable future," says Liisa Loippo, Marketing and Communications Manager, Experience Pyhä Oy.

"We would like to thank our partners for their pioneering role and rewarding cooperation. It is great that together we can take construction towards carbon neutrality. By choosing elegant and sustainable Ruukki products, customers can achieve even the strictest carbon footprint targets for their buildings," says Jorma Korhonen, Business Director, Roofing Finland, Ruukki Construction.
