Biogas from biodegradable waste ending up in general waste - Oulun Energia and Gasum gearing up for new type of investment
Oulun Energia and the energy company Gasum are working together on a local investment that would allow increased biogas production and processing into a road fuel biogas. The planned biogas plant would be located in conjunction with Oulun Energia’s Laanila eco power plant and, when completed, would be the first biogas plant to use the biodegradable material mixed in with municipal general waste as a feedstock.Laanila eco power plant converts municipal and industrial waste from across Northern Finland into process steam, electricity and heat. In the joint venture, Oulun Energia is preparing
Demand for cleaner fuel solutions is growing significantly in heavy-duty road transport, and responding to this demand will be even more strongly at the core of the energy company Gasum’s business in the future. Gasum is investing in the construction of around 50 gas filling stations for heavy-duty vehicles in Finland, Sweden and Norway by the beginning of the 2020s. The investment will multiply the size of the Nordic heavy-duty vehicle gas filling station network, enabling considerable emission cuts.In the Nordic countries, heavy-duty road transport plays a key role in the logistics system
Volvo has introduced the first LNG-powered heavy-duty truck offering a viable alternative for heavy regional and long-haul operations in Finland. Announced to the market in late 2017, the Volvo FH LNG is a concrete alternative to diesel engines for long-haul applications, including for towing full trailers. A clean and cost-effective alternative, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is becoming a more common fuel for heavy-duty vehicles on Finland’s roads.LNG is a clean fuel aimed at heavy-duty transport. Its use provides many benefits as, compared with other fuels, LNG generates lower local as well
