Logistics solutions provider PostNord transports using renewable biogas - Growing demand for clean fuels in logistics
Transport and logistics companies are at the forefront in efforts towards cleaner traffic and growing numbers of actors in the industry are actively pursuing ways to reduce emissions originating in transport. PostNord, the leading logistics solutions provider in the Nordic countries, has brought into use four biogas-fueled delivery vehicles in Finland during the summer. The use of biogas in transport can reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the lifecycle of the fuel by up to 85% compared with more traditional fuels. The Finnish transport sector has announced the goal to halve emissions
Heinon Tukku, a nationwide-full service wholesaler, has deployed a biogas-fueled truck since the beginning of the year. Low-emission, renewable biogas is made from biodegradable waste and sewage sludge feedstock, for example. Last year for the first time, the European Commission proposed binding CO2 emissions targets for heavy-duty vehicles. According to energy company Gasum, increasing use of biogas-fueled delivery vehicles would lead to significant carbon emission reductions.Foodservice wholesaler Heinon Tukku, a 120-year-old Finnish family firm operating nationwide, has added a biogas-
The Finnish dairy manufacturer Valio’s first biogas-fueled delivery vehicle was taken into service in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area in September. Valio also takes part in biogas production by supplying waste generated in food production to Gasum’s biogas plants. For many years, Valio has been testing a variety of vehicles using environmentally friendly fuels. The biogas pilot started this autumn was inspired by Valio’s circular economy thinking where the aim is to recover the waste generated in dairy production. In addition to taking part in biogas production, Valio is also introducing a
