Beavers are ecosystem engineers that cut down trees to build dams, eventually causing floods. Beaver-induced floods make forest landscapes and habitats increasingly diverse, but very little is known about the long-term effects of beavers on European landscapes.  Researchers at the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Helsinki examined the history and occurrence of beaver-induced floods and patch dynamics in southern Finland. There has been an approval of a patent in the US, based on a new AxoPur® invention.Axolot Solutions has during the last few years worked persistently and developed the company´s patent portfolio regarding water purification services. A good vitamin D status is beneficial both in cancer prevention and in the prognosis of several cancers, according to a new research review. The anti-cancer effects of vitamin D are especially pronounced in the prevention and treatment of colon cancer and blood cancers. In addition, high vitamin D responsiveness can be linked to a smaller cancer risk. Vitamin D responsiveness varies between individuals, affecting their need for vitamin D supplementation. HENT and the University Hospital Nord-Norge HF signed a contract one year ago for the construction of the University Hospital in Narvik. The contract was divided into two parts, a design contract and an option for construction of the project.
