Power supplies, which used to be a mass of analog technologies, have been going through major changes since the turn of the century. Once controlled by switching devices on and off in an analog circuit based on output voltage monitoring, they are now controlled digitally by microprocessors and software. Cosel started to develop its own digital control technology at an early stage. By incorporating digital control technology into the analog circuitry, Cosel has achieved power supplies with higher-level functions from which the FETA3000BA is fully benefiting.
Mr. Todo, COSEL’s Manager of Unit Standard Design Department
A good device has less than a millisecond pulse width, meaning that it is incredibly fast-firing, requiring the power supply to be able to deliver high energy levels during the pulse, but also able to restore energy for the next pulse. To meet such requirements is a great challenge, though by combining digital power and special PRBX innovations, the PRBX 2.25kW AC/DC capacitor charger SMM3000A80024C effectively meets the requirements of the job and complies with the medical safety standard IEC60601-1 3rd.
Patrick Le Fèvre, Powerbox Chief Marketing and Communication officer

Time to market is very important for systems designers as is simplicity of the sourcing / supply chains in order to reduce downtime in the case of trains maintenance or hardware upgrades. Both are driving forces behind extra-wide input range converters and we see similar demands from other industries such industrial automotive. Designing 13:1 input range DC/DC converters is very challenging in order to optimize all parameters while keeping the highest possible efficiency levels across the whole input voltage range, and we are proud that our designers achieved this in the new MAD-MAE-MAF series.
Martin Fredmark, Powerbox’s VP Portfolio Management

Railway modernization programs are now integrating digital control and additional safety functionalities that require a new generation of equipment for signaling, one that includes monitoring and independent battery backup. Most, if not all modernization programs will require it necessary to maintain and upgrade existing systems without any traffic disruption. This demands a high degree of flexibility in the power solution deployed at the trackside.
Patrick Le Fèvre, Powerbox’s Chief Marketing and Communication Officer
Delivering power to extreme applications such as subsea ones is always a challenge for designers. But in developing standardized, easily reusable sub-systems such as the VB410-380 we have shortened the design cycle and time-to-market for our customers. Expanding sales opportunities, its design philosophy makes it eminently suitable for other applications such as the chemical industry and in highly restricted areas where human intervention is both complicated and risky.

From the early days, board mounted DC/DC converters simplified the design process, whilst shortening the time to market. With the increased demand from Systems Designers to meet a large variety of bus voltages and from Supply Chain Managers to reduce inventory and fewer product-codes, Powerbox has been working on Swiss-knife power solutions, of which the PQB50U-72S and PFB600W-110S are perfect example of products responding to those needs.
Martin Fredmark, VP Product Management
Modern equipment embedded in trains require a specific power-up sequence (e.g. checking IGBT isolation, gate activation, security checks) which is done by a computer powered from an auxiliary battery. Due to some equipment or isolation breakers not always turned off, the auxiliary battery can discharge down to its safety level. Without proper LBVS, it is not possible to start the train, making this unit very important for safe operation.
Martin Fredmark, VP Product Management.
Emergency vehicles and new long-range bus fleets are requiring very flexible and reliable power sources to supply local voltages to demanding applications such as radio localisation and on-board video systems. The new ENA100 and ENA200 series have been designed with ease of use and reliability in mind, making these class leading products.

When designing the EXM30 series we aimed high. The low leakage current requirements for type CF and critical care applications, the water ingress protection requirements of critical medical facility and home care applications, very high ambition for life expectancy, power losses, high peak power, etc., and a desire to have one standard unit for global use, were all on the list. Less than 10µA leakage current, IP 21 protection, Homecare 60601-1-11 approval, 88% efficiency, 440,000h MTBF, 85-264VAC input voltage, and a design with interchangeable AC plugs shows that we succeeded
Martin Fredmark, VP of Product Management
